Reliability of a used 2001 BMW 530i with 113K mileage?

I am looking to buy a used BMW with 113K mileage on it. What is the recommendation as far as the relibility of mileage is concerened? Is the life of the car overat 100K miles? Has anyone used the car beyond 100K miles? any mechanical problems that could potentially arise after 100K miles?

- thanks

Overall, the M54 6 Cylinder engine used in the 530i is a very reliable engine. The main problem (as with most BMW's) will be the cooling system. Pay extra-special attention to the condition of the water pump, radiator and expansion tank (a little black container near the radiator). If you see any white-residue splashes on or around the engine, coolant either is or has been leaking.

The transmission used in the 530i is hit or miss. Drive the car until it is fully warmed up. Try all gears including reverse and make sure there is no slipping. The transmission should shift smooth as silk. If it checks out, I would recommend finding a mechanic that will change the "Lifetime Fill" fluid and filter for reliability. BMW transmissions use a special fluid made by Esso.

If everything checks out, try every single electrical accessory, switch, button and knob. Electrical problems in BMW's can be annoying and expensive to fix. Overall, the car should provide you with a useful life, but expect some repairs in the future.

I honestly would not even touch a used vehicle with over 100k miles. Even toyotas have problems after 100k miles. I heard BMW engines break down a lot after 70k miles.
Personally I won't buy any vehicle over or even close to 100k too many things could go wrong with it
