i just bought an 04 bmw 330ci and need to figure out how to get the rear view mirror to adjust automatically at night. and how does that red button under it works?

The red button underneath the main rear-view mirror has nothing to do with anything, it's part of the alarm system, basically a deterrent. And the rear view in these cars is electrochromatic which basically means it does it by it's damn self. If you need to adjust your mirror then you simply have to move it. Any other issues consult your car manual or go to a BMW dealer

If the veh did not come with the auto dim feature you need to go to parts and get the mirror that does and have installed by bmw service department. If you are not sure if it has it or not here are some tips. look at the center top of the mirron if it has a whole that look out of place that is the sensor and if you are driving at night and things look green in it that is the tint. So if you see the whole and don't see green its broken. No hole means you don't have it.
the red button under it is just for the alarm. It will flash when you lock the veh also you can twist it is you don't have the auto dim feature to tilt the mirror so you don't get blinded by the vehs behind you.
well i would suggest going to the dealer with the auto tinting for your rear view mirror function, and the red thing under the mirror is just a false alarm system. It is the same in that model if you have an actual alarm system (but the car will beep when you lock it) if you dont have an alarm, then it's just a fake alarm and will most likely deter car thieves. Oh yeah make sure to tell your insurance that it is a actual alarm so you will get rebates
