The BMW 318ti has a low market value because it did not sell well. It's truncated hatchback design was not too pleasing to the eye, and it was too expensive for the lack of power. Granted it was rear wheel drive and handled ok. But it was too expensive for what you paid.

The market value for the corolla is higher because it can be sold easily. It is a more reliable and practical car.

Most people and dealers would not trade out like that. It is possible if the dealer or person realizes that they could probably sell the Corolla for more money (bigger market).

I am not sure why you would want that particular BMW model...

You do realize that major replacement parts for the BMW will cost more than the value of the car.

If you think that it is faster or performs better than the Corolla then take a look at the specs...

The 2001 Corolla weighs about the same or less than the 97 BMWti. It has almost the same h.p. giving up only 13 h.p. to the Bimmer. And it gets better gas milage than the Bimmer.

Sport Compact Car Magazine once outfitted the Corolla with TRD shocks, springs, muffler, intake and short throw shifter. They posted over 70 mph going through the slalom. and pulled big numbers in lateral gs. (can't remember off hand). But the numbers compared well with bigger sport cars.
