I have one (same year, same engine.) Bought it new and it has 91K miles of very good service. I have a manual trans, so I can't give any info on the automatic.

Advice:

- change oil religiously when the computer indicates. DIY: about $35-40 (Mobil 1 synthetic, BMW or Fram oil filter element.)

- change all filters on schedule, esp. engine air %26 gas filter. BMW parts are good.

- change brake fluid when you do the brakes. If you use your brakes conservatively, you can probably reuse the rotors at least one time. Have the wear sensors inspected and replaced if necessary.

- change engine coolant on schedule. Use BMW pre-mixed coolant (it is diluted to 50% with distilled water.)

- change spark plugs about 60-75K miles. About $30 for 6 Bosch or NGK single electrode platinum-tipped plugs. 4-tipped super-duper plugs are waste of money, IMO.

- original battery finally died around 85K miles. Maintenance-free, located in right rear of trunk. I could not find an aftermarket battery, so I used the official ($$) model imported from Bavaria.

- get a copy of the Robert Bentely factory service manual. Very informative and detailed - worth the price. I believe you can also purchase BMW official service manual on CD-ROMs, but I haven't found the need to do so.
