What cars are similar to BMW COMPACT 316i?

I looked at buying a BMW compact 316i P reg but have decided against it as I have heard running costs are too high. I want something sporty, 1.6, that looks good below about 拢1400. Anything up to 90000 miles. Any ideas? Thanks

During that time, the only car that was compared to the BMW Compact 318ti was the VW Golf GTI. I guess for the 316i, it would be the other VW Golf models.

But later on, other cars came along - Audi A3, Mercedes-Benz Sports Coupe...etc.

If you want an affordable and reliable; yet sporty hatchback, why not get something Japanese, say, a Mazda?

The Mazda 323 would be a good choice. At your budget, you could probably get a P to S-reg model.
