Ive see the fogged airbox which is for the BMW Z3 .... and tried a smaller variation of it already and it does make alittle bit of difference in sound and power...
Now im wanted to no...
What would happen if i drilled another hole on the front side of the airbox and added another air intake and scoop towards the front?
Would it cause problems if to much air was entering the airbox?
Adding another air intake on the BMW Z3?nortin
There's really no such thing as "too much air" in regards to modding stock Z3 air boxes(but there is an "optimal" amount)...the item to guard against is too warm an airflow...that's why you see the best aftermarket units using heat shields to reduce intake air temperature...stock boxes can be shielded and or insulated...the better you accomplish this, the better the result....for 1.9's, the usual "Fogging" is excellent, but will be enhanced if the air box is well insulated on at least the engine side...2,8's are very much improved by adding air access holes to air box...usually done by drilling the surfaces which face forward or towards fender splashwell(some have completely removed the area next to the fender)...though there's really no upper limit to adding airflow, there is an optimal increase- when it equals M flow...the 2.8 uses the same intake system, MAF, and header size as the 240hp 3.2 MZ3...more air than that really only increases acoustic effects...so adding about 3 square inches of intake surface is all that is really effective when modding the stock 2.8 air box insofar as air flow is concerned...again, insulating the stock box will return noticeable performance gains...and result in a more mellow intake sound(less raspy than "open" style air intakes)...the best thermal protection will include some style of shielding against the fan airflow at the front of the stock unit...many different materials can be used(aluminum, plastic,etc)..easiest is probably "Cool-Tec" or Thermo-Tec aluminized thermal wrap material..cuts to size and maintains shape rather well..good to 2000*!...it's easily attached to side of air box(3M adhesive, or as i did, using smalll screws and some snap fittings) and some varieties are self-sticking..really easy to apply...hope this helps..Z3 Cheers! dk '97 2.8 bg R

Yes i also use roadfly a very handy website/ forum Report It
there is no such thing as to much airflow into the motor. the best thing to do is look into a cold air intake and filter that way you could get rid of the box
