Can anyone tell me about UTI? I am attending a tech school in Appleton WI, and am considering a career in the automotive industry, specifically BMW. Is UTI the best choice for vehicle specific training. Anywhere near Wisconsin where I could attain specific vehicle training for a career such as this? I've only ever really heard of UTI, and it's pretty expensive...
To tag alone with my other bmw questions...?noton
I am from Antioch, IL which is in Lake County. I found my community college (College of Lake County) had an automotive program where you could get associates degrees in auto tech. So I did the program and took it serioulsly. You will need to work hard and get almost perfect grades, and have perfect attendence but then you can apply to BMW STEP which is the dealer specific school who only accepts those who meet that requirement. I applied for BMW STEP at the UTI in Glendale heights here in IL and was accepted. There are different BMW STEP schools around the nation where you may be sent so you have to be willing to move for school. Then you go through that program which is like 8 months long and get a job working at a dealership. You pay nothing for the school if you sign a contract to work for a dealership for a year or 2. Then if you are in a good market in a couple more years you could be working 5 day work weeks probably 8-5 everyday with the occasional Saturday half day making good money. Here in Chicago for example in a couple of years you could be making around $30/ hour booking 40-60 hours or more in a 40hour work week. So research your local community colleges and talk you someone at STEP if you are serious about it, UTI training is not required for your automotive tech school credit. WWW.BMWSTEP.COM will give you more information.
