How is the Reliability of the BMW 740IL?

I was thinking of buying a 2001 BMW 740IL but I keep hearing that these cars are not reliable and that they are VERY costly to repair. Any input would be appreciated.

according to facts and reference instead of opinion the reliability of the bmw 740IL is horrible. According to consumer reports the overall reliabillity rating is "much worse then ave" . The 2001 740 recieved either much worse then ave or worse then ave scores in cooling, electrical, ac, suspension, body intergrity, power equip, and body hardware. Its "used car verdict" is "much worse then average" They are very costly to repair as well. Also for a side note, the 740 recieved either "worse the ave" or "much worse then average" ratings for its engine every year from 1998 to 2003 except for 2001 where its engine rating was "average"

M60 engine used in the car isn't very reliable. many electronic sensors are used and they fail over time. Cylinder Head is made out of alumium and torx bolts are used all over the engine, making it one of the most difficult engine to work on. Early version of engine was made out of nikasil, which fails under time if poor quality gas is used.
